Is your Smart phone or Tablet the reason you are getting neck, wrist or joint ache?
The mobile phone has become the adult’s transitional object, replacing the child’s teddy bear for comfort and a sense of belonging. Mobile phones today have replaced cameras, alarm clocks, iPod’s and calendars. They have become a person’s best friend and connection to the world.
According to a study the average person in the UK spends 90 minutes a day on the phone. Let’s look at what effect this can have on your body.
Are you aware of your posture when you use your mobile phone?
- Are your shoulders rounded?
- Do you look down with your head forward?
- Do you type or browse with the same hand?
- Do you take your head close to your phone?
- Do you feel achy after using your phone?
Employing any of the above habits just a few times a day can leave you with aches and pains in the neck, shoulders, arms, wrist, upper and lower back.

The correct way to look at your mobile phone:
- Hold your mobile phone higher at your chest region closer to eye level to stop bending your head and rounding your shoulders.
- Keep your body upright to help prevent aches and pains
- Don’t rely on just once hand when typing and browsing, try to be ambidextrous (using the right and left hand).
- Limit your time on your phone by setting an alarm
- Stretch your fingers, wrists, forearms, neck and shoulders after use.
